sustainable methods to increase crop water productivity are gaining importance in arid and semi-arid regions. In this study, applicability and different aspects of deficit irrigation on pomegranate was evaluated. For this purpose, various research findings fom different parts of the world have been used. The results of these studis indicate different physiological responses and changes in pomegranate under different irrigation regimes. Mainly the pomegranate tree comfronts with water stress caused by deficit irrigation by creating a mechanism to avoid stress and resistance to stress. In general, according to the results of various studies, it can be concluded that the effect of defcit irrigation on the quality of pomegranate fruit can be expressed in different forms. These effects can be positive or negative, which mostly depends on deficit irrigation method, the amount of stress applied and the proper management of deficit irrigation. According to the results of these studies, it can be concluded that deficit irrigation by partial root zone drying method with a 25% reduction in water consumption compared to full irrigation, will give the best result. Based on the obtained rsults, it was determined that using deficit irrigation while reducing water use will increase water use efficiency and, given the water crisis condition and multiple drought events, it can be used as a practical and useful solution in the management of crop production and deal with the water crisis. Nevertheless, in order to obtain the optimal result, compliance with the principles of deficit irrigation management is necessary.
